In short: Epilou is free and has no ads. Sync is an optional extra for which I can’t guarantee constant availability. Keep your recovery key safe – without it, nobody can restore your synced data, not even me.

2. Services

Epilou is free. There are no in-app purchases, no subscriptions and no ads. With the app you manage your series and movies locally on your device, find titles via the TMDB database and can optionally sync your library between several devices.

I continue to develop Epilou and may change, add or remove features in the process, provided this is reasonable for you.

3. Search and sync via the server

Search runs through my server by default, and sync always does. I offer both voluntarily and free of charge. There is no entitlement to any particular level of availability; the server may be temporarily unavailable due to maintenance, outages or further development.

Should I permanently discontinue sync, I will announce this in the app or on this website at least three months in advance. The data on your devices is not affected, and you can export it as a backup at any time.

Please use the server only through the app and only as needed for your own use. In particular, automated mass queries, using the access token outside the app and attempts to circumvent security measures or disrupt the server’s operation are not permitted. In the event of a violation, I may block access for the installation concerned.

4. Your responsibility

  • Recovery key: Your synced data is end-to-end encrypted. Without your 12-word recovery key, I cannot restore it. Keep it safe and don’t share it with others.
  • Backups: Export a backup regularly if your library matters to you – for example, before switching devices.
  • Your own content: You are responsible for content you create yourself, such as notes or custom covers. It remains private and is only visible to you and your connected devices.

5. Content from TMDB

Information and cover images for series and movies come from the TMDB database. I cannot guarantee that it is accurate or complete. The rights to this content belong to TMDB or the respective rights holders; it may only be displayed in the app for your personal use.

Epilou uses the TMDB API but is not endorsed or certified by TMDB.

6. Liability

Since I provide Epilou free of charge, I am only liable for intent and gross negligence. This does not affect liability for damage resulting from injury to life, body or health, for fraudulently concealed defects or under the German Product Liability Act.

7. Termination

You can stop using Epilou at any time: “Delete sync” removes your data from the server, after which you can simply uninstall the app. Exactly how this works is described in the privacy policy.

8. Changes to these terms

I update these terms when the app, the server or the legal requirements change. I will announce significant changes in advance in the app or on this website. If you don’t agree with the amended terms, you can stop using the app at any time as described in section 7.

9. Final provisions

German law applies, excluding the UN Convention on Contracts for the International Sale of Goods. If you are a consumer habitually resident in another EU member state, you retain the protection of the mandatory provisions of the law of your country of residence.

I am neither willing nor obliged to participate in dispute resolution proceedings before a consumer arbitration board.
